Description:  During the first turning of the wheel of Dharma, Buddha Shakyamuni taught the Four Noble Truths: the truth of suffering, the cause of suffering, the cessation of suffering and the path to the cessation of suffering. These four truths represent the core-foundational teaching in Buddhism.  In brief, the truth of suffering refers to our experience of afflictive emotions and the actions we take based on these afflictive emotions.  The cause of this suffering arises from our misconception of things as appearing to exist independently compared to how they exist in reality.   The cessation of suffering occurs when we overcome this misconception through the development of wisdom that understands and sees the reality of how things exist.  This wisdom is cultivated through various practices that comprise the path.  During this weekend intensive, Geshe-la will discuss each of the Four Noble Truths in detail and how they apply to our lives.  This weekend intensive is ideal for persons new to Buddhism as it will give a sound foundation for further study.  This teaching will also provide deeper understanding of the Four Noble Truths for those who have been studying Buddhism for some time.
